Converting OSGB to Lat/Long

The long and tedious job of creating a file of accurate coordinates for settlements and topographic features in Cornwall continues.

I now have 5,905 with coordinates that are at least better than Open Names, which are only accurate to within 1km. This leaves around 750 with no coordinates, although I do have four digit OS grid reference squares for them.

Honestly, I cannot be bothered to hack my Java code to sort these out, but luckily I have found Phil Brady’s excellent (truly), Excel add-in. It worked first time, just by following his instructions. All I need to do now is get the maps out and adjust their positions. Here’s a screen shot of the converted points.

I recommend a visit to his site here.
